Tiffany's Terrific Treasures

My sister and me in Amelia Island, FL.

My name is Tiffany Tong and I am from Alpharetta, Georgia. My family is from Vietnam, but I was born and raised in Georgia. I am a junior at Valdosta State University with a major in Early Childhood Education. I have always wanted to be a teacher since I was young. I enjoyed babysitting kids in the neighborhood and helping them with their homework. It was a good feeling when the kids understood the educational concepts that I was trying to help them with! I finalized my plans of becoming a teacher in high school. I was very lucky to have the opportunity to have a course called "Peer Facilitation" as my elective. In this course, students were assigned to an elementary school for one or two class periods to gain experience in the classroom. I was placed in a wonderful classroom at Creek View Elementary School with teachers and students that I will never forget. It was the first experience that I had with students, and it was a very rewarding one. By the end of the school year, I was convinced that this was what I wanted to do for the rest of my life. I wanted to be a teacher!

During high school, I was very involved in a community service organization, Key Club and an art organization, National Art Honor Society.  I feel that both organizations have impacted who I am today. In my career as a teacher, I am hoping to take the knowledge and skills that I have gained as an officer of both organizations. I enjoy participating in community service activities, such as Relay for Life. Our Key Club was part of Relay for Life every year to help raise money to fight cancer. In National Art Honor Society, we created ceramic bowls to sell at a local soup kitchen to raise money to feed the homeless. I enjoyed participating in both of these activities and I will further encourage my future students to help the community.

There are many websites that are helpful for teachers now, which is why I feel that the field of educational is constantly advancing. The Georgia Performance Standards website is a very helpful website for me, as a future teacher because I am responsible for teaching my students the particular concepts. The website is also useful for parents also in order for them to be familiarized with what their children are learning. There are also many activities that teachers, parents, and students can use to help reinforce concepts, such as Fun Brain. I enjoy using Fun Brain because there are activities for every subject and they fun games that keep the students interested in the topic.
