A Game of Chess

Alice falls through her glass
while Hatter drinks his tea.

The Walrus floats his boat
across a swirling sea.

White Rabbit hears the click of time,
and so goes rushing home.

Black Knight takes Red Queen,
who madly wants to shout,

"Off with his head," but who instead
loses heart, and lies stricken in her bed.

Silence fills her empty place
upon the checkered field,
while Pawns inch across the board.

The Black Knight, satisfied,
coldly wipes his sword.
