Hi! My name is Renee Torres. I am 24 years old. I attend Valdosta State University and this is my first professional semester. I am currently studying in the Early Childhood and Special Education  Program. I live in the small town of Hazlehurst, Ga. At the moment, I reside there with my husband Jorge. I worked for 3 and 1/2 years for the Jeff Davis Board of Education in the English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL) Program. I served as a Spanish and English bi-lingual translator for the school system. This semester I had to resign my position in order to continue my education here at VSU. When I graduate I hope to get a teaching position in Hazlehurst.

A little information about my background is that I am part Caucasian and part Mexican. I really enjoy learning about both  my cultures. Therefore, one of my special interests is studying the Spanish language.  I grew up in the United States, but I have family in Mexico. I have traveled to Mexico several times to visit my family in Cuidad del Maiz, San Luis Potosi.

I have also spent time with my husband's family in Cuidad Valles, San Luis Potosi. When I visit Mexico I am able to learn more about the my true Mexican heritage. In order to continue learning about the Spanish language I would like to visit the Don Quijote Website and the Spanish Class Online website. These are two great websites that can be used by anyone.

Since I have decided to become a teacher, I have been researching different websites to use. I really enjoy this PBS website. This website gives teachers lots of teaching ideas. The information is free to anyone. My favorite part about the PBS website is that it offers lessons in every subject area. With all of the activities available it will be easy to connect them to the GPSs.
I have enjoyed working as a paraprofessional in the English for Speakers of Other Languages Program (ESOL). This program helps to reinforce English to those student's who speak another language. I feel in order to serve these students who may be in my class, I must adjust my teaching lessons.  Dave's ESL Cafe gives lots of ideas for lessons to be taught with all different ages. It gives great lessons for those students who may be at the beginner's level of learning English. This website can also be used as a review for those students who need a refresher course.
