Introduction

Kindergarten students enter school at various levels. The majority recognizes some letters of the alphabet but has not been exposed to the sounds that these letters make. My web page will be designed to aide Kindergarten students in letter recognition and phonemic awareness.

Rationale

Georgia Performance Standards in English/Lang. Arts for Kindergarten students demonstrate the relationship between letters and letter combinations of written words and the sounds of spoken words. Also that they:

a.      Demonstrate an understanding that there are systematic and predictable relationships between print and spoken words.

b.     Recognize and name all uppercase and lowercase letters of the alphabet

c.      Match all consonant and short-vowel sounds to appropriate letters.

d.     Blend individual sounds to read one-syllable decodable words.

e.      Apply learned phonics skills when reading words and sentences in stories.
