THE MIXED UP MORNING
by Mercer Mayer
picture and story by Myra

Little Critter slept soundly in his bed one
morning. His mother came to the door to tell him that he
overslept. She had already been to his room one time to wake him
up, but he went back to sleep. Little Critter was in a bad mood
because he thought he started his day off bad.
He went to get
his favorite shirt out of the dryer, but is was dirty. He had to
wear a different one instead. He went to the kitchen to eat his
breakfast, but his sister had eaten all of the pancakes. He had
to eat oatmeal instead. He could not find his lunchbox, he had to
take his lunch in a paper bag. The school bus came to pick him
up, but he missed it. He was not having a good morning.
Little Critter
could not find his friends when he got to school, so he went to his
classroom. Little Critter wanted to read a book, but his teacher
asked him to sweep the floor instead. He finally decides that
helping the teacher is a great way to start the day!

Critical
thinking questions:
1. If you were Little Critter, how would you have made
your day go better?
2. What would have
happened if Little Critter had gotten up on time?
