About the Artists:
Both AJ Argentina and Beau Raymond live in the Atlanta area of northern Georgia and work at the Roswell Art Center West.
AJ Argentina received his BFA from Valdosta Sate University in 2000 and his MFA from Georgia State University in 2004. AJ’s recent work includes thrown vessels, vapor fired in a soda kiln.
Beau Raymond grew up in southern Louisiana where he attended Nicholls State University and received his Bachelors of Art in 2004. He received his MFA from the University of Florida in Gainesville in 2008. He now teaches ceramics and is a resident artist at Art Center West in Roswell, GA. Beau concentrates on the figure, often referencing himself in a range of narratives.
From AJ’s Artist Statement:
I work within a functional format and am informed by the rich history of ceramics. At its best, my work reflects upon these vast traditions and adds an interesting layer. I strive for my pieces to transcend their utilitarian boundaries and to function equally as sculptural elements. I am interested in composition, surface, and craftsmanship as well as utility, and for the combination of these elements to create a dialogue between maker, user, and object.
Where & When:
AJ and Beau will be demonstrating in the Fine Arts Building rm136 Monday and Tuesday - February 15th & 16th from 9am-4pm. Students, faculty and members of the community are welcome to attend for free. Their lecture is scheduled for 6:30pm Tuesday, February 16th in the art history lecture room, UC 2004 in the south end of the University Center. Many areas of the arts were included; the 16 students that enrolled were part of a very unique experience, similar to that of a studio seminar or graduate level course.
Abbie worked in a figurative direction producing a series of five “heads.” She explored surface design, new construction techniques and mixed media in the final presentation of the work.
