Education Opens Up A World of Possibilities
Designed By Ann Monigold

Hello, my name is Ann Monigold, currently I am a junior at Valdosta State University.  I am in the Early Childhood & Special Education department majoring in Early Childhood Education.  I am very excited about beginning my professional blocks and again work in education.  Prior to moving to Valdosta, Georgia with my family last year; I lived in Germany for eleven years.  My husband is currently on active duty with the U.S. Air Force.  I have been very fortunate to see and experience many other cultures.  Since moving to Georgia, we have decided to put down roots and stay here once my husband retires.  We have recently purchased our first home in Lanier County.  I look forwared to working in my new home community once I graduate.

While living in Germany, I was employed as a substitute teacher for the Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DODDS) in Europe for three years.  During this time I worked as a long term substitute teacher on many occasions.  I have opened two second grade classrooms, one of which was a German Immersion program, and have co-taught a second grade classroom for almost three quarters of the school year.  In addition, I have taught summer school enrichment classes for two years with DODDS.

My favorite part of living in Europe was being able to learn about its history and culture; as well as sharing it with my two children.  Prior to taking family vacations we would visit the base library to check out books on the people and places that we would visit.  Our visit to Amsterdam, Holland in the Netherlands is a favorite family trip.  In Amsterdam we were able to visit Anne Frank's home in which her family hid from the occuping Nazi's during World War II.  We also visited a couple of museums and were able to see some of the incredible paintings of Dutch painters; in particular, Rembrandt's massive Night Watch painting.  Visiting Holland was amazing for me as I was able to experience it through the eyes of my children.
