About Reading

Ms. Yarbrough co-teaches 8th grade READING.  A co-teaching environment places two teachers in the classroom as extra support for students who may struggle with the subject area.  Co-teachers use a variety of resources and strategies to make learning fun and more manageable for all students.  One benefit of having two teachers in the classroom is that students can have individual or small group instruction as needed from each teacher.  Another benefit is that co-teachers can actually team teach and present material and activities together so that students can see a variety of teaching strategies and accommodations that better help them to learn and retain the information.

Ms. Yarbrough's reading class will explore literary text (fiction) as well as informational text (non-fiction).  CA Gray follows the Georgia Performance Standards, as mapped out by the Georgia Department of Education.  Students will learn to indentify characterization, setting, plot elements, author's purpose, and other standards of reading.  Since reading and language arts are grouped as one subject area for middle and high schools, the 8th grade reading standards are grouped with language arts on the following site.   These standards are also posted in the classroom so that students are aware of  the expectations  for the class.
