Education is beautifully yours

Hello Everyone!!!

My name is Kalisha Hodge and I am a student here at Valdosta State University where I am pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. I came to Valdosta from Leesburg, Ga where I graduated from Lee County High School in May of 2006. My 14 nieces and nephews sparked my interest to become an early childhood educator because, I absolutely love working with them and teaching them new things. Seeing their eager faces when they are ready to learn something new and knowing that their minds are content with me answering all of their questions makes me happy.

I have a lot of things that I am currently involved in and I enjoy all of those as well. I am currently serving as the vice-president and NPHC delegate of the Alpha Theta Chapter of Zeta Phi Beta Sorority, Inc. here at Valdosta State University, member of the Black Student League, participate in Habitat for Humanity and I am a mentor working with the SMART Girls group at the Boy's and Girls Club of Lake Laurie here in Valdosta.

My favorite season is Spring for so many reasons. Springs revitalizes nature and brings fresh flowers and rain that gives an aura of serenity. This is what I want my students to feel in my classroom. The feeling that everyday is a new day in my class and be ready to learn something new while knowing that the classroom enviornment will always be calm and inviting. Another thing that I love about Spring is, this is when all the butterflies come out. I like to think of my students as educational butterflies. They come in the classroom wrapped in a cocoon ready to hatch into something new, but when they leave they will have grown into very different individual and beautiful butterflies.
After obtaining my degree here at Valdosta State University, I plan to move to Atlanta, GA and teach at one of the local elementary schools. I am a firm believer that children are our future and as educators we have not done our job to the best of our abilities if we have left a child behind. I would like for all my students to leave my classroom with educated minds, a want to learn more, and drive to become the best person that they can become. I would like to learn as much as I can from my students as well becasue I believe that as an educator my learning never ceases.
