Welcome
to
Miss
Brooks' class page. This semester I am doing my field experience
at Lanier County Elementary
School in Lakeland,
Georgia. My
mentor teacher is Mrs. Bennett. She teaches kindergarten, and
there are 21 students in her classroom. The classroom is very
colorful, cozy, and an exciting environment to work. The
students sit at their assigned tables and do classwork while Mrs.
Bennett and I walk around the room and assist them.
Most of the time
the students are on what we call
"the big carpet." Here the students sit on
the
carpet to enjoy their morning activities. The students feel more
involved in their lessons and closer to their teacher. Each day
there is a new teacher helper that assists in the activities.
Their
activities vary from sing along learning songs to calendar activities
to playing educational games. This year the teachers are focusing
on literacy centers. This is where the students learn their
letters, sounds, and words.
Most
of all, the students love for their teacher to read aloud to
them.
They enjoy sitting,
listening, and also joining in
with the teacher to help her read. They read short
stories, poems, and riddles. All of the
children
are very cute, sweet, and ready to learn. I have enjoyed this
experience so far,
but I am really looking forward to getting to know the students better,
and
teaching them fun lessons on my own.
