SUMMARY
The Very Hungry Caterpillar,
is an informative picture book with simple words and vibrant pictures,
great for the beginning reader. The author, Eric Carle, takes the
reader from page to page on the stages a caterpillar goes through. Each
page introduces the different days
of the week, the life cycle of a butterfly, and types of food eaten by
caterpillars.
The main character in the story goes on an adventure in a predictable sequence as the days of the week go by. Finally, the caterpillar finds himself satisfied and no longer hungry as he wraps himself into a spun cocoon.
This is a great book to use when practicing different colors as well as practicing the names of the days in a week. Another important lesson in the book is learning the stages a caterpillar goes through before becomming a caterpillar or moth.
