My name is Kayla Deneen Cleghorn and I am a Junior at Valdosta State University. I am 21 years old and I am currently in my first Practicum in the Valdosta State University Early Childhood and Special Education Department. I hope to obtain a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education by December of 2010. I want to teach 3rd or 4th grade and I want to stay in Georgia. I am from a small town in southern Georgia, Ocilla, where everybody knows everybody. I put 100% of my heart into everything I do. I love music and singing. It is my Life! My favorite singer right now is Tyrone Wells. (Tyrone Wells) I sing at pageants, parties, churches, weddings, and funerals. I am an active member of Bethlehem Baptist Church in Ocilla, Georgia.

The smallest, simplest things in life make me happy. I am a very determined woman. I have millions of big plans and big dreams, and I am on my way to achieve them. I have morals, goals, and high standards. I love to laugh and smile. My friends are a huge support system for me. I believe in standing up for what you believe in. I've also learned that you will go through hard times in your life, but those hard times are what make you who you are. I believe in hugging, hugging a lot. I believe that laughing is the best calorie burner. I believe in being strong in every situation. I believe in God. I believe that children are miracles.

Successful teachers possess a positive attitude, a consistent approach to discipline, and high expectations. I plan to achieve these dispositions through experience and practice. A positive attitude produces positive results. Education is important and very valuable. All students can learn and be successful. As a teacher I want to instill a desire to learn in the minds of my students. Students need to understand that they will never stop learning. Education is never ending. I still have a love for learning new things, because it helps me develop as a person. When I say I am a teacher, I also realize that I am a nurse, a knowledge expert, a substitute mother, a secretary, a psychologist, a coach, and a computer technician. I am committed to conquering each challenge that arises.

There are a few websites that I have found very resourceful in helping me with creating my lesson plans and classroom activities and would recommend them to teachers in Georgia. The Bright from the Start website aids Pre-K teachers in creating lesson plans that relate to the learning and creative development of their students. Georgia Performance Standards are standards that teachers use to correlate their lessons on academic levels. Quality Core Curriculum are a set of standards that help teachers incorporate the fine arts into their lesson plans.
