The Kissing Hand is a story about separation.  It is a story for anyone who confronts a difficult situation and who sometimes needs reassurance. No matter where we go or what we do, it is wonderful to know that we can carry the love of others with us.
Chester Raccoon does not want to leave his mother and go to school.  He fells strange and scared about going to a strange, new place.  So his mother tells him about a very old secret she had learned from her mother.  The secret is called the Kissing Hand.
Chester's mother takes  his hand and kisses it.  He tingles with warmth all over. Mrs. Raccoon explains that he can press his hand to his cheek when he needs  a litttle loving from home.  Now Chester knows that his mother's love will go with him no matter where he is.
