An Educational Walk
Designed By: Jessica Kennedy

Hello and welcome to the homepage of Jessica Kennedy.  I am a student at Valdosta State University, preparing to become a future educator.  I am a Junior in the Department of Early Childhood Education.  I have always had a strong desire to work with children, hoping to make a positive impact on their lives.  I am very excited about my career as a teacher.  I see the importance of impacting a child's life in a positive way, and I know that as a teacher I will be able to do just that.  I am very excited that you are visiting my webpage, and I hope you enjoy all the different places this "walk" will take you.

I grew up in the small city of Claxton, Ga, home of Claxton Fruitcake and Claxton Chicken.  Though Claxton is very small, I love the life and memories it has provided for me.  I would not trade growing up here for anything.  I am very close to my family and cherish each moment I have to spend with them.  We are all from the Claxton area, therefore I am lucky to be able to see them often.  I was priviledged to grow up in a loving, stable home with my father, mother and older sister.  My older sister, Jami, who I am very close to, also attended VSU and was a student in the education program as well.

Since the age of 3 I have been a dancer.  Dancing was my life for 15 years, and it opened many doors to opportunities I would not have normally had the chance to experience.  I started teaching dance my 9th grade year, and I believe that was one of the main reasons I gained such a love for children.  Watching a child learn new tasks and accomplish goals is extremely rewarding.  Besides teaching, dancing allowed me to travel to many places including New York City.  In New York I had the opportunity to dance in Radio City Music Hall, where I took a class from a Radio City Rockette.

Helping a student understand sometimes takes more than just the time provided in the classroom, so I have found a website that is avaliable for parents to use at home with their children.  My reading resource from the table above came from the website STARFALL, and on this website, there are many educational reading opportunities I would love to share.  This website can be used at home and in the classroom.  It is geared towards those students in Kindergarten.  I would like to share Teachers.Net with all of my fellow educators.  I really enjoy this website because it provided so many wonderful resources for teachers including: lesson plans, k-12 activites, educational articles and much more.  This site gives other teachers a chance to borrow and learn new ways of providing for their students as well as planning and preparig for themselves.
Another  website I enjoy that I would like to suggest for teachers is  TEACHERTUBE.  This is an educational website that provides videos on most topics, some that can even be shared in the classroom.  It is a form of YouTube, but a more regulated version.  It has comical, educational, and inspirational videos.  I have linked here my favorite TeacherTube video; it really inspires me to make a positive difference in a student's life, because sometimes a teacher is all that student has.
