The Very Hungry Caterpillar

The name, The Very Hungry Caterpillar, is perfect for this book.  Late one Saturday night an egg was laid on a limb of a tree.  The very next morning, when the sun came up, a tiny caterpillar appeared from the egg.

Boy was he hungry, right away he began looking for food.  He ate apples, pears, plums, strawberries and oranges.  Can you believe he was still hungry after he ate all that?? A week passed by and the caterpillar decided to eat more! He ate all sorts of things, cake, ice cream, cupcakes, and cheese.

As you can imagine, his little stomach was hurting after all this food.  He ate through a green leaf and his stomach began to feel better.  He was very glad he felt better, but now he was huge!!!

He built himself a cocoon and stayed in there for TWO months. He dug a hole through the cocoon and pushed his way out.  The next day he turned into to a beautiful butterfly.

What types of food do you like to eat?
Why do you think the caterpillar's stomach was hurting?
What should you do if your stomach is hurting?
What did you think was going to happen when the caterpillar came out of the cocoon?
