Clue Into Education

Hello, my name is Jessica Nix and I am twenty-two years old. I have been happily married for four years and have a three year old son. I have lived in Valdosta my entire life and have no desire to ever leave.  I am currently a junior at Valdosta State University majoring in Early Childhood Education. For the last three years I have been volunteering at a local elementary school and found that I had a true passion for working with children. My ultimate goal after graduation is to find a job as a third grade teacher. Although it seems that I have very little time for anything or anyone beyond school, I know that in the end all the sacrifices will have been worth it.

In my spare time, I enjoy volunteering and mentoring third grade students. When I am not doing that, I spend all the time I can with my three-year old son. We enjoy going to Wild Adventures and riding the rides and seeing the different types of animals. His favorite things at Wild Adventures would probably be the shoe roller coaster (which we ride atleast 4 times) and feeding the giraffe and elephant. We also enjoy sleeping in on the weekend and waking up to watch an episode of Blue's Clues. Recently, we have begun to work on computer skills and try to spend a little time doing the activities on the Fisher Price website. It is not only educational but a lot of fun too!

The internet is a wonderful tool that both students and teachers can use in the classroom. There are numerous websites available to teachers with printable lesson plans, activities, and worksheets in all subjects and grade levels. A great website I found was PBS Teachers which offers standard-based resources and are broken into the different subjects. A secong great website for teachers is Apples4theteacher which offers activities for teachers to use and information on classroom management, educational articles and research, and a free monthly newsletter. These are just two of the many sites available to teachers.
