Eating healthy is very
important. Do you know that there is a food pyramid to help you
choose foods that are good for you? Well, there are six major
food groups. You need to eat the right serving size from all of
the
major food groups each day so you will have a strong and healthy
body. Can you name the different food groups? Do
you know the serving size of each food group? What is your
favorite food and do you know what food group it belongs to?

Grain Group ![]() |
This
group forms the bottom of the pyramid. The grain group should
make up the biggest part of what you eat all day. Cereals, bread,
rice and pastas are all part of the grain group, they are called

Fruit Group |
Can
you name some of the foods in the fruit group? Look at this cool
site on fruits.
What are your
favorite fruits? You need to have 2-4 servings of fruit and fruit
juices a day.

Do
you know what Vegetables
are? Do you know how many servings of vegetables you are suppose
to have? You need at least 2-3 servings from this group
everyday. What kind of vegetables do you like? |
Meat Group |
Chicken, pork chops, steak, hamburgers, fish, shrimp are in the meat group. You need at least 2-3 servings a day. Some vegetarians eat eggs, nuts and beans from this group. |
Milk Group ![]() |
Milk,
cheese, and yogurt are a part of this group. You need at least 2-3
servings from this group a day. This group helps you build strong
bones
because you get a lot of calcium from
these foods. |

This group contains sweets, oils and fats. You do not need to eat a lot of food from this group because it is not very healthy. Cake, candy and chips and some fried foods are known as junk food. It is ok to eat them every now and then but do so in moderation. Sugars and fats need to be natural, that means they come from food that has natural sugar and/or fat already inside. |
