Topic Mini-Research Real World Activity
Student One
Pretend you are a scientist writing an article for a scientific magazine. You want to tell people what a magnet is. You also want to describe and illustrate one of the uses of magnets.

Student Two
Pretend you are a reporter writing an article for a magazine. You want to tell people about a new train that uses magnets instead of wheels.  You want to tell them how magnets are used to make the train go. You also want to illustrate how magnets repel away from each other.


Steps to Complete Real World Activity
Student One
1. Go to Facts about magnets and to Uses Of Magnets and Magnatism to read about what a magnet is and some of the uses of magnets.
2. You will be given a piece of construction paper. 
3. You will tell what a magnet is and describe one of the uses of magnets.
4. Illustrate the use of magnets that you described.

Student Two
1. Watch video about Maglev trains. Also go to Uses of Magnets and Magnatism to read about how magnets are used in transportation and how magnets repel away from each other.
2. You will be given a piece of construction paper.
3. Write about how magnets are used to run the Maglev trains.
4. Illustrate how magnets repel away from each other.
