Splash into learning at Dolvin Elementary School!

Dolvin Elementary School

Dolvin is one of the largest and oldest elementary schools in John's Creek. The staff includes ninety very talented and dedicated teachers and paraprofessionals servicing an enrollment of just under a thousand students. It was built in 1979 and named in honor of W. Jasper Dolvin who was a school principal and the uncle of President Jimmy Carter. Dolvin Elementary School gained national attention on September 15, 1980, when it was dedicated by President Carter. Our school colors are blue and white and our school mascot is the very playful and highly intelligent Dolphin. Dolvin has been recognized as both a Georgia and National School of Excellence. We offer a variety of programs to meet the diverse needs of all our students. We strive to help each of our students be the best they can be!

I love teaching kindergarten!  I have been a teacher at Dolvin Elementary for 25 years.  I am a Buffalo, New York native and graduated with a B.S. in Elementary Education from D’Youville College and an ED.M in Early Childhood Education from State University of New York at Buffalo. I am married to Charlie and have 2 sons, Jeff and Greg. I also have an adorable granddaughter named Mary Alice. I look forward to meeting and working with you this school year.  Thank you for sharing your wonderful children with me!

Hello! I have spent 6 wonderful years at Dolvin assisting Mrs. Siegert in kindergarten. Before that, I was the director of a child development center for two years. I received my BA in fine art with a minor in Spanish at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. I started Valdosta State University during the fall of 2007 and will graduate with a MAT in Special Education in December of 2010. I have an eleven year old son who will attend his first year of middle school in the fall. I  also have two silly cats and one crazy Australian Sheppard. My hobbies include making art, singing, reading, and spending time with my talented son and crazy pets!

Kindergarten is such a fun and exciting place to learn! We will learn about the alphabet and the sounds they make. Soon you will even put these sounds together to make words! By the end of the year, you will be reading your own books! In math, we will learn how to count and recognize numbers all the way up to 30; and we will even learn how to count by 5's and 10's. In Science, we will learn about the parts of a plant, the life cycle of a frog and butterfly, and the major organs of our own body. Social Studies will teach us about all the different people in our world. Aren't you excited to learn about our presidents, community helpers, and other great leaders?  We have three computers for you to play fun games in the classroom, and you will also go to a larger computer lab one day a week. You will love cooking in our kitchen which has dishes and play food. We even have a puppet theater with all kinds of puppets for your very own shows! We will practice singing and dancing in music one day a week, and in the spring, you will get to perform in a play about farm animals! Do you like sports? We will go to P.E. two days a week to play some really silly games. How about art? Not only will you get to create beautiful art in our classroom, but you will also go to art class every week. That's not all! Every afternoon, we go outside to play on our awesome playground! There is never a dull moment in our kindergarten class! You are going to have so much fun and make so many new friends!
