Note:
SSH Secure Shell can be used to publish Web pages after
they have been developed and saved. You can use SeaMonkey
Composer to
develop your Web pages. After saving your Web page, you can
publish it
through the use ofSSH Secure Shell. |
1.
* If
you need to download SSH
Secure
Shell, a
FTP software program, see VSU

for recommended software, under Software Downloads there
is a link to "Download" SSH
Secure
Shell.
* Follow Directions to download
SSH Secure Shell FTP
After you download Secure Shell FTP

from
your new Secure Shell icon on your desktop (it is the yellow SSH folder) or
from
your All Programs
* SSH Secure File Transfer window
will open
* Select: Quick
Connect
(see
picture below)
Information for "Connect to Remote Host" window
3. *

* User Name: yourusername
(see picture below)
*
Select:

Several Windows will open
4.
* Message from the Server Window Select: OK
Enter Authentication Response Window will open
5.
* Enter Password Window: write your
password to publish on the VSU server (Important, it is a special
publishing password given to you by the VSU
HelpDesk.)
SSH Secure File Transfer Window will
open
6. * Select: public_html - (Important step, be sure to
select the "public_html" in this first window on the Remote Name
side.) Now the right side, the Remote side, is
ready.
Locate on your Computer the Web page, image, or picture that you
have Saved
and ready to Publish
7.
*
On the
left side of the Secure Shell window, Local Name side, find your Web page (html)
or image (gif or jpg
images publish best on the VSU server) that you want to move and
publish on the VSU server. (Find where you saved your Web
page or image. Usually it is save on your hard drive or your
jump/flash drive.)
* Drag the
name of the Web page or image over to the remote server (VSU) side. (see picture below)
* Now your
image or Web page has been added and published
the VSU
server.
* Important, when you have
made changes or additions to a Web page (such as
added an image or text) you must publish the Web page every
time after making the changes,
so
the VSU server will publish the changes to your Web page. (You only need to publish images and
pictures the first time you add them to your Web page.)
Find
your
Web page on the Internet
8. * To find you Web page on the
Internet:
* If it is your
Class/Home Page your
URL
will be: http://www.valdosta.edu/~yourusername (for example, my Class/Home Page is at http://www.valdosta.edu/~djudd)
* If it is a
Web page other than your Class/Home
Page
then the URL
will be: http://www.valdosta.edu/~yourusername/nameofpage.html (for example, if I published my third
eBook page as ebook3.html then
the URL would be at http://www.valdosta.edu/~djudd/ebook3.html)
* Important, be sure you check your
Web page and changes on the Internet.
After you check your
Web page on the Internet, it is important to save
your Web pages on
your jump/flash drive or the hard
drive of your home computer. Just in case anything
happens to your Web pages, you will
have a backup to publish them again (this could save you many hours and
keep you from crying when you lose a Web page).
