Mini-Research
Real World Activity Let's
pretend that you are shopping in a grocery store. I am the cashier.
What kind of services might a cashier provide? How would a cashier be
able to help you in a store? What kind of questions might you ask a
cashier if you needed help? What does a cashier do? Re-visit the
interactive town
to refresh your memory about some community helpers and the services
they provide. Then click on the coin poem and song
website to make sure you remember what each coin is worth.
Now pick items you would like to buy from the items I have for sale.
Bring the items to me, the cashier, to purchase them. In order to
purchase them, you must count out the exact number of pennies, nickles,
dimes, or quarters that the item is worth. After you have
purchased your items, think about some of the other community helpers
and what they do for your community. What service do they provide? Who
do they help? Where would you find this person? Pick one community
helper, then draw and color a picture of the helper providing a service
to the community and write one sentence about what the helper is doing.
