Creative Corner designed
by Carrie LeAva Varnadore
Welcome to my website, "Carrie's Creative Corner." My name is
Carrie LeAva Varnadore. I am twenty years old. I am currently a junior
at Valdosta State University
and I am an Early Childhood Education major in VSU's Early
Childhood and Special
Education Department. This
semester will be my first professional
semester at VSU. I've wanted to become a teacher for as long as I can
remember. I can't wait to finally begin to teach and have a
classroom of my own! This past school year, I worked at Valwood
School in Hahira as an Extended Day Teacher working with grades Pre-K
through 5. This was definitely one of my most memorable experiences. I
learned so much from the children in the program and I hope that I had
some type of impact on them as well!
If you can't tell already, art and music are
very important to me. I've performed and written music as well as
created many different works of art for as long as I can remember!
I played the clarinet in my high school concert band and was a member
of the Flag Corp during football season all four years of high school,
two of which I served as Captain. I'm currently learning to play
guitar (whenever I can find the spare timeto practice). I also
enjoy creating new works of art. I mostly like to do sketches of
people, mainly faces. A lot of the works I have created recently
have been from photographs or by simply observing people as they go
about their day. Below are a few examples of my work.

originally from Jesup,
Ga but I currently live in Valdosta, GA.
I come from a family of four. My mother, Connie, father, Reggie, and
brother, Cameron, still live in Jesup. My mom works at a local
bank called Prime South and my dad works as a Foreman for the Jesup
office of the Georgia Department of Transportation. Cameron is
seventeen and a senior at Wayne County High this year. I also have a
dog named Bailey. She just celebrated her first birthday this past
July. She is a golden retriever mix that I adopted from the Lowndes
County Animal Shelter in October of 2006. Below are a few pictures of
me, my family, and Bailey.
Vincent Van Gogh is my absolute, favorite artist. His paintings "Starry
Night" and "Wheatfield Cypresses" are my favorite of all of his
works. "Starry Night" is featured at the top of this page and
"Wheatfield Cypresses" is used as the icon for the link to my LiveText
portfolio. A few years ago I was able to go to New York City for
week and I visited the Metropolitan
Museum of Art while I was there. This was one of my most memorable
experiences! I would love to be able to return someday to see the new
works of art and exhibitions they have.
I have found a few websites online that I think would be very helpful
for teachers, both old and new. Teacher Planet is a great
website that has many resources to choose from. They have a link to
lesson plans, a calender on the home page which lists important
holidays, and over 250 theme based resource pages. Songs For Teachers is
another great website that I happened to stumble across. Since
music and art are so important to me, I hope that my future students
will come to appreciate the arts as much as I do. I'm sure that this
website will be an excellent way to accomplish this goal. This
website has links to free downloads and lyrics of educational songs on
a variety of subjects that would be great to use in the classroom.
