There
once was a little girl named Lucy. She was nine years old and
loved the outdoors. Since she had turned nine, she had been a
part of the community helpers which took care of the nearby park,
keeping it clean, neat and a fun place to play. When she was
about to enter the fourth grade, her parents told her they were
moving! She would be very upset to leave her playground, but she
knew she could overcome this and make a new life in her new town.
Once her
family had settled into their new home, Lucy and her parents
decided to take a walk around their new neighborhood. As they
were walking, they came across the neighborhood park. Lucy was
getting anxious to see it, since this was her love. As they
neared the park, her heart sank. The park was a terrible
mess! Garbage was everywhere, and it looked very unsafe.
Lucy was upset, but had a plan.
As soon as
school started, Lucy
made new friends quickly. After a few weeks of school, and
passing the ruins of a perfectly good park everyday, Lucy worked hard
to create a team of community helpers of her own. She posted
signs all over the place and began recruiting children and adults from
the neighborhood who were interested in turning the park into what they
all new it could be. Several weeks of renevating the area, it
started to look like a park again. It seemed as though the local
squirrel and birds thought so as well.
Lucy had
done a great
thing. It was definitely something she could be proud of.
She brought the community together and made a beautiful place to be
able to just sit back, relax, and enjoy nature.
