Have you ever wondered what makes animals similar and what makes them different? Is a dog like a snake? Well, we are going to find out what makes them similar and what makes them different, just by going on a hike! I hope that after this lesson you can see an animal and know what animal group it belongs to. Well, let's get started!!

Mission
Have you ever been on a hike? Well, you are going to get to go on one. We are going to pretend that we are out in the wild. We are going to take a walk around school and see how many "wild animals" we can find. I am going to give you a piece of paper that has the different categories (mammals, reptiles, amphibians, birds, and fish) on it. When we see an animal you are going to write the name of that animal under the correct category. The name of the animals will be under their picture. When we get back, I want you to draw a picture of an animal that you hoped that you would see but, didn't. At the bottom of your picture I want you to write the name of the animal and the category the animal belongs to. If you have trouble remembering how to categorize the animals, you can go to this site to help you. How to
complete your mission:
1.
We are going to review the different animal categories.
2. We are going to go on our pretend hike, as we see animals, we are going to write their names under the correct category. 3. When we get back, we are going to draw a picture of an animal that we hoped we would see, but didn't. At the bottom of the page we are going to write the animal's name and it's group. |
