TOPIC REAL-LIFE ACTIVITY

For Miss Amanda's insect activity, you are going to pretend that you are an entomologist (scientist that studies bugs). Today you will be examining the life cycle of a caterpillar. To learn more you will explore the Exploring Butterflies web site and discover the exciting world of caterpillars & butterflies.

STEPS FOR TOPIC REAL-LIFE ACTIVITY

1. Have you ever seen a caterpillar? A butterfly?
2. Visit the Exploring Butterflies website. Check out the butterfly life cycle!
3. Fold a paper into four sections and inside each section color the pictures of what you saw happening during each of the four stages of the butterfly life cycle. If you can not remember every step you can peek at the website again, ask the teacher, or a friend for help.
4. Do you remember what happened to the caterpillar before it became a butterfly?
5. Share your pictures & what you learned about the butterfly life cycle with your friends.
6. Go with the class on a brief butterfly hunt outside and see what you can find.
