Dolphin swimming

Hello! My name is Amanda Walker.  I am a Junior at Valdosta State University in Valdosta, GA.  I am majoring in Early Childhood Education, which is a part of the Early Childhood and Special Education Department.

I am originally from Kenosha, WI, where I lived for 19 years, before I moved to Gainesville, GA in August of '06.  I attended my first year of college at the University of Wisconsin-Oshkosh in Oshkosh, WI.  Wisconsin is a great place to live.  There are a lot of fun things to do such as camp, hunt, fish, or visit amusement parks, museums, or other historical places.

I love to travel and have been to many places including California, Tennessee, Kentucky, Illinois, Ohio, and even Germany.  Germany is probably my favorite place because there is so much beauty there, it is just breathtaking.  There is much to see and do in Germany, including castles, wine valleys, historical cities, and also the Rhine River.

I recently visited Discovery Cove in Orlando, FL and it was the experience of a lifetime.  My boyfriend and I got the chance to swim with dolphins, and then experience ocean life by snorkeling with tropical fish and even stingrays.

One of my hobbies is traveling, but I also enjoy other activites.  I love reading and could spend hours just browsing bookstores, especially Barnes & Noble.  I enjoy spending time with children and that is why I love my job at Children's Friend.  Seeing my children everyday and teaching them things puts a smile on my face.

Becoming a teacher will be a new and exciting change for me, but I will need a lot of help.  Therefore, I've found an educational website that will be helpful to me in my coming years.  Busy Teacher's Cafe is a friendly K-6 website for busy teachers that includes many helpful information such as worksheets, tips, and recommended books for the classroom.  PBS Teachers provides PBS-related resources and activities for educators.
