Chapter History

As with all great things, the Valdosta State University Psi Septaton Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa started out as an idea between friends. Circa August 2006 Adam Carlock, Patrick Smith, and Michael Duncan Jr. were sitting around during the half time of a college football game. Mike asked his newly found friends what they thought about the Greek life and were they planning on joining any of the currently established and well respected Greek organizations.

Apparently, both Adam and Pat had wanted to possibly rush in the future but weren’t sure with which organization. Mike then asked if there was a Phi Sigma Kappa chapter at Valdosta State University, unfortunately there wasn’t one. Mike happened to be a legacy of Phi Sigma Kappa since his father, Michael Duncan Sr., had been a brother of the Xi Hexaton Chapter that was originally established in 1976 at Clinch Valley College (which is now known as the University of Virginia at Wise). Suddenly, the trio of young college men all had the same idea. “Why not start our own chapter here at VSU?”

After extenuous research and making contact with the Grand Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa, the group of young men earned the title of “Interest Group” with Phi Sigma Kappa. In December of 2006, the original three had been joined by many others and were able to be associated to become the first Colony that VSU had in 10 years. Since that point there have been many hills and valleys to cross but they always had the one goal in mind, a chapter of their own.

After painstaking months of work, the Psi Septaton Chapter of Phi Sigma Kappa was chartered on February 6, 2010. All of this was made possible thanks to the brothers that have stuck with it through it all and gave every ounce of effort possible.
