How did we get started?
Valdosta State University offers many ways for students to express themselves, especially with Odradek: VSU’s Literary and Arts Magazine. The term “Odradek” comes from Franz Kafka’s short story “The Cares of a Family Man.” Our on-campus literary magazine has published the work of hundreds of students over the years and the magazine has evolved with the times.
Formerly called other names like Pendragon and The Pines, the history of our “lit mag” is somewhat shrouded in mystery since no one seems to know who first changed the title over twenty years ago. Odradek is staffed, written, edited, and published yearly by VSU students from all majors and disciplines. All students are encouraged to be on the staff and attend bi-weekly meetings in addition to submitting short stories, poetry, creative non-fiction, photographs and visual art.
