Tour the Valdosta sTATE University iSLAND

The VSU island is comprised of three main areas; the Campus, the Village, and the Nature area. Take a moment to familiarize yourself with the highlights of each area before diving into Second Life.

VSU Clinical Services

The Campus

1. West Hall inside

Inside the West Hall building.  There are wooden kiosks with various Websites listed.  Above each is a banner stating what that kiosk is for.  Social Work, Education, Nursing, Business, Arts and Arts and Science are listed on the banner above each kiosk.  There are also couches and carpets in the room on the right.

Each college/unit has its own kiosk for web site and instructions for specific courses inside the West Hall building.

2.Courtyard and teleporter board

A sign with the Valdosta State Univesrity Log is in the center with a large tree with hanging moss and flowers in the background. The ground is brick and to the right is a bench.  Visible on the sign are listed several places to teleport to and reads from left to right; amphitheater, West Hall, campus store, downtown student district, faculty village, nature trail, sandbox, and orientation playground.  In the center there is a person looking at the sign.

Behind the main building West Hall is an open courtyard with a teleporter to the main areas of the island.

3. Amphiteater

A large stadium area with built in stone seats.  In the center is a semi-circle stage with a person on it.  In the background are trees and an ocean.

Large numbers of people can meet here for  performances or lectures.

4. Teaching Pods

Three spheres float in the sky.  Below them the downtown area and faculty houses are visible.  There are also many trees below and to the left and right.

Instructors can use the sky-level "pods" for teaching. Each of the six pods has three levels that can be used for classrooms, simulations, or class projects.

The Village

1. Downtown (day)

Various buildings of brick and stone.  In the center is a building labeled Playhouse.  Plants and benches are visible as well as a chess board on a table with two chairs.  A river is in the foreground.

Designed to use for class projects and group meetings, the various downtown buildings include a student art gallery and an arcade with air hockey and other games.

2. Stores

Store fronts at night time. The one of the left has a sign with the word Val's on it.  Three people are gathered outside teh store.

In the Downtown area are two stores, one with avatar-related items and other with miscellaneous items, all free.

3. Faculty Village

Two story houses of various styles types.  Three in the front and two in the background.  The door is open for the house in the middle and you can see fire place inside. Each of the houses is lined with flowers and trees.

Faculty houses are used by instructors as residences or offices for a semester or longer.

The Nature Area

1. Horse Rides

In the middle of a grassy field is a wooden stable with a sign that says horse rides.  Inside the stable is a brown house with black hair and toward the back is a wheel with a cutout of a horse on it.

Anyone can “rez” a horse and ride it around the island.

2. Waterfall

A wide angle shot of a tree filled area.  In their center is a barely visible person next to a waterfall that flows into a river.  Around the waterfall are flowers and some rocks.

The waterfall is just one area of beauty for students and instructors to explore.

3. Campfire

In the middle of a grassy field at night is a camp style fire.  Around the fire are stones, then dirt, and around that there are four logs.  In the foreground is a slender person with a hat next to a log with a blanket on it.

The campfire area can be used for relaxation by students or instructors, or as a place for a group meeting.

4. Orientation Playground

There is a large sign that reads Orientation Playground. Explore and practice Basic SL Skills.  In front of it is a person standing next to some large mushroom.  In the background you can see the bottom of a town with staris, a pink carpet, a field of flowers with a curvey walkway above it, a campfire, and a cave.  Surronding these objects are white boards with blury unreadable words on them.

A transparent sky box (accessible via the teleporter board) with fun objects to ride, climb, and explore in order to learn Second Life skills.

VSU Clinical Services

1.VSU Clinical Services (lobby)

A  two story spanish mission style building with a large arched door way.  There is a person walking through the front opening.

The new VSU Clinical Services lobby has a reception area with a teleport up to the large clinic, where there is a conference room, hospital room, prison room, “home” room, and rooms for individual, couples/family,  group, and play therapy.

2. Clinic Conference Room

3. Clinic Hospital Room

Each room has an observation area between the room and the hallway.

4. Clinic Prison Room

The Clinic Prison Room has both an area for the prison cell and an area for visitors and detainees to communicate.
