Dr. Matthew Richard

I am a Cultural Anthropologist who's interested in all aspects of culture, wheter in the here-and-now or even a virtual communicty. to me, there's always something to learn, regardless of the scene; it all depends on how one is trained to see. I started to refine my own vision during a stint as a Peace Corps volunteer from 1985-1987. I spent two phenomenal years teaching Science in a middle school in northern Burkina Faso. Ironically, my new understanding began with two years of very intense un-learning, while simultaneously devising a new survival scheme (everything from bucket showers to camel riding). I'd never felt such exhilaration. As a professor at VSU, i strive to give my students the same opportunity to experience the wonder of this remarkable planet.
