Welcome to Physics at VSU

If you major or minor in physics, you will be treated to small class sizes (< 15 in upper division classes) and to a lot of support from faculty and students! Our active Society of Physics Students (SPS) offers FREE physics tutoring for everyone. The SPS also has a range of activities, including star parties, Gravity Day, and an annual weekend camping trip to Okeefenokee.

Our faculty are active researchers and so there are opportunities for research assistants.

In addition, we offer courses for other science majors that satisfy core requirements for lab sciences:

PHYS 1111K and PHYS 1112K "Introductory Physics I & II" Physics 1112K covers topics in mechanics, thermodynamics, and waves. PHYS 1112K introduces concepts in electromagnetism, optics and modern physics. Elementary algebra and trig are used in these courses, but no higher mathematics.

We also offer courses for non-science majors which can satisfy core requirements for science classes without labs:

PHSC 1100 "The Universe of Energy" "The Universe of Energy" is an introduction to the concept of energy. Energy in all its forms is explored, from kinetic to fusion processes. This is a non-lab course and requires only elementary algebra.
