Upward Bound Awards Ceremony
The Upward Bound Program held its Annual Awards Banquet on July 9, 2010. The UB Awards Banquet captivated another great and successful Upward Bound Program Academic year. The awards ceremony highlighted accomplishments of each participant as well as instructors.
During the summer the Upward Bound participants live on the Valdosta State University campus during the UB Summer Session which provides a 6 week study session for its participants.

Upward Bound Senior Banquet
The Upward Bound Program held its Annual Senior Awards Banquet on May 11, 2010 honoring our first graduating class of 2010. The awards ceremony highlighted accomplishments of each senior. Upward Bound students faced an accelerated program this year, with four study sessions per week and two Saturday academies each month. Many were also enrolled in honor courses and engaged in the demanding new International Baccalaureate curriculum at Valdosta High. The list of accolades, scholarships and college acceptance announcements is evidence that challenges and rigorous coursework did not stop this diligent group.

Georgia Southern University College Visitation Day
Upward Bound participants attended Georgia Southern University Visitation Day on March 27, 2010. Multiple groups and hundreds of families were also in attendance. GSU held a variety of sessions in which the UB participants attended the financial aid and housing sessions. Afterwards, the students took a tour of the beautiful GSU campus. This was an inspiring event for several of our students who are interested in attending this university.

Student Initiative Weekend
During the month of November, Upward Bound participants and staff ventured to Atlanta, GA for The Georgia Association of Special Programs Personnel (GASPP) Ninth Annual Student Initiative Weekend November, 20-22, 2009, at the Wyndham Peachtree Conference Center, in Peachtree City, GA.
The Student Initiative Weekend consists of the Educational Talent Search Academic Bowl, the Educational Talent Search High Q Competition and Essay Contest, the Upward Bound Scholars’ Bowl Competition, the Ronald E. McNair Post- Baccalaureate Achievement Program/Student Support Services Debate Competition, and the Student Leadership Conference which consists of a variety of leadership trainings and workshops. A semi-formal Awards Banquet was held on Saturday evening. The theme for this event was: “Take Flight: Soaring to a Higher Level”.
