Diversity Audit
Thank you VSU faculty, staff and students for your participation in this unique and important event.
VSU hired the National Multicultural Institute, to conduct the Diversity Audit. The audit consisted of two stages. The first stage began in October 2007 and contained phone interviews and focus groups. The individuals for the phone interviews and the focus groups were chosen from all areas of the university community. The individuals were contacted by the consultants. The audit encouraged all to participate on a voluntary basis. All attempts were made to include representation from every area on campus. The focus groups were led by the consultant firm and the information has been kept confidential. The purpose of the interviews and focus groups was for the consultants to be able to design a survey that specifically fits the needs of the VSU community.
The second stage of the audit consisted of a survey and was conducted in November 2007. The survey was offered in both paper and computer form, with computer links established by the consulting firm. The survey was offered to all areas within the VSU community. The goal was to collect as many surveys as possible with the understanding that percentages of collection may differ depending on the demographic being surveyed. In order to increase participation, events were planned during November. The VSU community was apprised of these events. While this was important work and allowed us to begin to establish important benchmarks, the committee hoped that adding a bit of light-hearted fun to the process would invite participation.
The information collected in the survey is now being analyzed and will be returned to VSU in mid-April and be made available. The collected surveys will be destroyed by the consultant firm according to their guidelines.
