George Gaumond Award

(A non-monetary award to honor the student selected by the MLIS faculty as one who excels in scholarship and service to the profession)

Internal Scholarships

MLIS Merit Scholarship
(pays e-tuition for one course; dependent upon funds and eligibility of students)
2012 Recipients: Nelson Fredsell.
2010-2011 Recipients: Sara Henderson, Marti Minor, and Brittany Emge.

H. W. Wilson Scholarships
(funds award every three years to LIS schools by H. W. Wilson; pays e-tuition for one course)
2011-2012 Recipients: Sarah Benefield and Cynthia Holmberg.

External Scholarships

Hubbard Scholarship
($3000 scholarship; awarded annually; sponsored by the Georgia Library Association)
VSU MLIS Recipients: Carol Waggoner-Aggleton (2011), Bonnie Moore (2010), Amber Knight (2009).

Charles Beard Scholarship
(Two $1000 scholarships; awarded annually; sponsored by the Georgia Library Association)
VSU MLIS Recipients: Linda Cooks (2012), Holly Phillips (2010), Tiia Kunnapas (2009), Miguel Vicente (2007), Lori Lester (2006).

Georgia Library Association’s Paraprofessional Award
(paid registration for the Georgia Council of Media Organizations conference and commemorative plaque).

Lynda Crumley Memorial Internship
(paid internship sponsored by the Friends of the Smyrna Public Library).
Recipients: Stuart Temples (2012), Sara Henderson (2010), Michele Ewing (2009).

CNN Internship
(paid internship offered periodically)
VSU MLIS recipients: Cynthia Barton (Fall 2012), Jennifer Duke (Fall 2009).

J P Morgan Chase
(paid internship to fund imaging and indexing parts of the archives at the Martin Luther King Center, Summer 2011).
Recipient: Bethany Nash.

Emory Libraries Fellow
(Competitive, salaried two-year fellowship).
Recipient: Bethany Nash (2012-2014).

Farold W. McGraw Fellow
(Est. in 2012 to fund a children's librarian at the Darien Library in Connecticut)
Recipient: Krishna Grady (2012).

Ringling Museum of Art Internship
(paid internship offered periodically; generally advertised in the spring for summer positions; must locate to Sarasota, FL, June to August)
Last VSU MLIS student to receive the scholarship: Brittany Emge (Summer 2010).

Smithsonian Archives of American Art
(paid internship offered periodically; generally advertised in the spring for summer positions; must locate to Washington, D.C.)
Last VSU MLIS student to receive the scholarship: Camille Brewer (Summer 2009).

Individual Benefactor
(sponsorship for attendance at the annual Southeastern Chapter of the American Association of Law Librarians (SEAALL) Conference)
Last VSU MLIS student to receive the scholarship: Tochie Blad (2011).

ALA Student-to-Staff Award
(joint subsidy by ALA and the MLIS Program for one student to participate in and contribute to activities at ALA’s annual conference)
2013 Recipient:Justin Nobles will travel to Chicago this year to serve his internship.

Laura Bush 21st Century Librarian Scholarships
(a grant obtained from the Institute of Museum and Library Services through a joint effort by the Georgia Public Library Service and the VSU MLIS Program).
First cohort of VSU MLIS candidates received the scholarships, Fall 2010.
Second cohort of VSU MLIS candidates received the scholarships, Spring 2011.
Third and final cohort of VSU MLIS candidates received the scholarships, Fall 2011.
