Dr. Cynthia Royal Tori, Ph.D
Professor of Economics
Dr. Cynthia Royal Tori is a professor of economics at the Harley Langdale Jr. College of Business at Valdosta State University. Dr. Tori's primary research interests center on financial services, central banking, international trade, and returns to education. Her research has been published in several journals including the Journal of Macroeconomics, the Atlantic Economic Journal, and the International Journal of Economics and Finance. Dr. Tori is the writer and editor of the South Georgia Business Outlook, a quarterly on-line publication that discusses and forecasts the expected economic conditions for the thirty-two counties that comprise the South Georgia region. A summary of Greater-Valdosta forecast may also be read in the Progress magazine. As a member of the Center for Business and Economics Research, Dr. Tori has completed several impact studies and has worked closely with the Valdosta-Lowndes County Chamber of Commerce on several projects including the Chamber’s IMPACT 2012 project. Dr. Tori's greatest professional joy is working with and preparing her students for their chosen careers and expanding their understanding of the macro-economy and policy decisions. Dr. Tori received her BS in finance from the University of Florida. After four years of working in the banking industry, she entered graduate school at University Kentucky where she received her Ph.D. in economics.
Dr. Tori is married with three children. Her hobbies include boating, going to the beach, and spending time with her family and friends.
