Dr. Leisa Marshall
Professor of Accounting
Dr. Marshall earned her BS in BA with majors in accounting and finance in 1983 from Southeast Missouri State University; Master of Professional Accountancy and Doctor of Business Administration degrees from Mississippi State University in 1988 and 1993, respectively. She earned the CPA and CMA designations in 1989 and 1997, respectively. Financial accounting has been Dr. Marshall’s primary teaching area. More recently, she began teaching accounting information systems. She received the Outstanding Teaching Award from the Valdosta State University College of Business Administration’s student body in 1994.
Dr. Marshall’s research interests focus primarily on financial accounting and accounting education. Dr. Marshall has published or presented approximately 50 conference proceedings, articles, and a study guide in the areas of financial accounting, tax, information systems, accounting education, TQM, and business ethics.
Dr. Marshall has served the college in a variety of capacities. She chaired two COBA committees during critical periods of the COBA. In one instance, she chaired the Students Relations Quality Improvement Committee during the AACSB reaccreditation. Subsequently, she chaired the Assessment/Curriculum Quality Improvement Committee in an effort to begin the assessment of educational outcomes. She later served as the Director of Assessment, providing input to several new COBA projects (COBA Orientation course and Career (Student) Portfolios). Dr. Marshall conducted several professional workshops relating to assessment and active learning.
Dr. Marshall has served the local community as well as the accounting community. She has served as a track chair, session chair, discussant, and reviewer for several accounting conferences. She also serves as a reviewer for two publications. She served as the Treasurer for both the Quota International of Valdosta, Inc., organization and the organization’s major fund raiser. She holds memberships in several accounting-related organizations.
Dr. Marshall is currently the only member of the faculty to have received the COBA Outstanding Teacher Award, research award and service award, simultaneously.
