Dr. Sanjay Gupta
Professor of Accounting
Dr. Sanjay Gupta has been at the Langdale College of Business at Valdosta State University since Fall 1997. He completed his Ph.D. from the University of Central Florida in 1997, MBA from Georgia Southern University in 1993, and Bachelors of Commerce from Calcutta University, India, in 1987. He worked with Xerox Corp. as a Senior Credit Executive for five years and with Voltas Ltd for 2 years as a sales officer before deciding to pursue an academic career.
His primary teaching interests are in the areas of cost and managerial accounting. Dr. Gupta currently teaches in both the traditional MBA as well as the Georgia WebMBA© program. He has also taught several accounting courses in the distance-learning format. Dr. Gupta has won the Georgia WebMBA© ' Outstanding Faculty of the Year ' award in 2007, 2008 and 2011. Dr. Gupta has been nominated for the Langdale College of Business Administration "Outstanding Teacher" of the year award by the Student Advisory Council eleven of the past 12 years and has had the honor of winning the award in 2000, 2004, 2007, & 2008. Dr. Gupta has also had the distinction of winning the VSU Award for Excellence in Teaching in 2009 and the Langdale College of Business “Outstanding Advising” award in 2012.
Dr. Gupta’s primary research interests are in the areas of management accounting, quality control and modeling, and accounting education. He has published in some of the leading academic and practioner journals such as the Journal of Forecasting, Quarterly Journal of Business & Economics, the TQM Magazine, Academy of Educational Leadership Journal, Journal of Accounting Education, Leadership & Organization Development Journal, Accounting Instructors' Report, Academy of Managerial Communications Journal, Southeast Case Research Journal, Journal of Accounting, Ethics and Public Policy, Journal of Medical Marketing, and the National Accounting Journal. In addition, Dr. Gupta has presented at more than four dozen national, regional, and local conferences.
Dr. Gupta’s is committed to encouraging students to succeed both academically and professionally and currently serves as the faculty advisor for the Institute of Management Accountants Student Chapter. This chapter was awarded the Silver Certificate of Excellence in its first year of existence. As faculty advisor, Dr. Gupta has helped students obtain internships and scholarships, organized community service events and plant tours, and obtained scholarship funds to take students to the annual IMA Student Leadership Conference.
Dr. Gupta currently serves as the Digital Measures administrator for the Langdale College of Business and is also the chair of the Curriculum Committee.
Dr. Gupta is a CPA and a CMA with more than 7 years of professional work experience.
