Guide for Creating
Web Pages Using FrontPage 2003
This is a step by step guide for those users having trouble with using Microsoft FrontPage 2003. In order to use a “live web” using Microsoft FrontPage, you will need to request an account for the chiron web server. Once you have requested this account, you will need to use your VSU Email Username in order for the web server to authenticate access. The password is provided after registering for the account.
Step One
Open Microsoft FrontPage by clicking on the Start button, select Programs, then select Microsoft Office and then FrontPage.

Step Two
Once you have opened Microsoft FrontPage, locate and click File at the top left corner of the window. From the drop down menu, select Open Site.

Step Three
One you have selected Open Site from the drop down menu, a new window will appear. At this new window, you will be prompted to enter the Site name. The Site name will be, for example, http://chiron.valdosta.edu/username/. After you have entered the Site name, click on the Open button.

Step Four
Once you have clicked on the Open button, a new window will appear. At this new window, you will be prompted to enter your User name and Password. After entering your User name and Password, click the OK button.

Step Five
Once you have entered your correct User name and Password, a two pane window appears. On the left is your folder list and on the right a tab saying Web Site. From this window click File at the top left corner of the window. From this drop down menu, select New. Once you have selected New, a task pane will appear on the right side of your screen. From this pane, select Blank Page.
Step Six
One you have selected Blank page, a new page entitled new_page_1.html will appear. This page will be your index page. You should go to File at the top of the window and from the drop down menu, click save as. When the save as window appears, “index” should already be in the File-name box. Click save and this is your index page.

Step Seven
You are now ready to begin editing your web page(s), beginning with the blank page entitled index.html.

Step Eight
Begin to edit your web pages here. Don’t forget to save your work.

Step Nine
To view your new web page(s), go to your current web browser (Internet Explorer, Mozilla) and type your Web name in the address line.

Step Ten
In the event of creating and editing your web page(s), make sure you DO NOT delete the page entitled index.html. This action will result in the following error message: “You are not authorized to view this page.”
