Welcome to the International Student Information and Services Website!
International students face some unique challenges as well as opportunities while pursuing their academic goals at Valdosta State University (VSU). The International Student Website was designed to offer support and information to the VSU international students on pre-admission, arrival, orientation sessions, immigration advising, employment, federal income taxes, and personal and adjustment problems.
If you are an international student who is interested in applying to Valdosta State University, follow the "Future Student" section to learn more information about how to become a student at VSU.
Students who are new in Valdosta and have been admitted to Valdosta State University can follow the "After You Are Accepted" section.
Students who have been attending VSU can find useful information under the "Current Students" section to learn more on employment, taxes, and immigration issues.
Six good Reasons for choosing Valdosta State University for your studies:
- Campus: beautiful landscaped campus, distinctive Spanish mission style architecture, and advanced facilities.
- Services for International Students: academic advising, detailed orientation, culture adjustment, immigration workshops, English language programs, affordable fees and scholarship opportunities, and graduate assistantships
- Location: small town size, warm weather, and nice scenery
- People at VSU: hospitable, friendly, and meaningful interactions between faculty and students
- Cost: low cost of living and international scholarships
- Academic: experienced professors, 90 undergraduate, graduate and doctoral programs, individualized attention
UPDATE: CBP ANnOUNCES NEW I-94 AUTOMATION PROCESS
On April 30, 2013, the U.S. CBP (United States Customs and Border Patrol) has stated implementing implementing the automated version of Form I-94, Arrival/Departure Record. Students will no longer receive a paper I-94 card upon entry to the United States. Instead they will be able to access their I-94 numbers through the CBP website at www.cbp.gov/I94. If a student already has a paper I-94 card, they should still hold on to their card until their next departure from the United States.
For more information on what this change entails, please go to the Fact Sheet to learn more.
MANDATORY STUDENT HEALTH INSURANCE PROGRAM:
The University System of Georgia has contracted with United Health Care as the new vendor for student health insurance for the coming academic year 2012-2013. Student Health Insurance is required for nursing students, international students with an “F” or “J” visa, and students with a graduate assistantship. The following PDF file gives an overview of the premiums and benefits. At the present time, we do not have information as to procedures for requesting waivers, but will post the instructions as soon as they become available.
