HSA Sponsors a Haunted House

Trick or treating

The idea for a Haunted House was just blurted during a monthly HSA at the beginning of the semester. Certain people had wanted to hold a Haunted House last year, but it never happened. So, the HSA decided to make it happen this year.

Michael Holman was the mastermind behind the whole event and oversaw all aspects of production and preparation. Tim Malone andLaura Simmons were in attendance for almost every single event meeting and invested a lot of time and effort to make sure this entire project was a success. The Haunted House owes Tim and Laura a lot.  Our HSA president Jay Prosser kept an eye on everything and several more participants contributed a great deal to this sophisticated project: Kim Evans, Philip Williams,Matt Babcock ,Stephanie Patterson, andElizabeth Barwick.

Though the names above standout, the HSA could not have done this without everyone that's been working in the group. On the actual nights of the big scare, everyone pitched in and did a fantastic job, making this Haunted House truly frightening.

This event was held at the Honors House on 10/30/2008 through 11/1/2008 from 8:00 PM until about 10:00PM or 11:00PM. There were a good number of customers and they all came out reasonably scared. It was also a good bonding experience for the HSA members who helped in putting it together. We also learned valuable lessons in planning, management, and financing of group projects that we are going to apply to other endeavors in the future, including next year’s Haunted House.  We intend on making this event a hallmark of the Honors Program.  We invested quite some funds in the event this year and intend on reaping the benefits of this fundraiser for years to come.
