This section will describe some of the technology used for the IT Effectiveness Training program.

Blackboard WebCT Vista WebCT Vista is an online learning enviroment that provides course tools for the creation and import of content to facilitate learning. Our Distance Learning division provides content design resources and administrative technical support to faculty and staff, while the Helpdesk provides technical support for students experiencing issues while attempting to access the system. The IT Effectiveness Training modules are housed within WebCT to allow our representatives to access it from any location.

Adobe Captivate Adobe Captivate is a screencasting program, used to record everything the user sees on their computer screen. Afterwards, callouts (prompts), voice-overs, and other special effects can be added. Finally, this content can be posted in to a WebCT learning module. This product was used to create hands-on exercises for the IT Effectiveness Training project. Since the Helpdesk handles many account-related issues, such as password resets, we wanted new employees to be able to experience the process without altering actual accounts.

Adobe Photoshop Adobe Photoshop is professional photo-editing software that incorporates advanced tools such as filters, layers, and selections for easier image editing. This software was used to edit some of the primary images used on the site, such as the table of contents and process flowcharts.

Half-Baked Software Quandary 2 Quandry 2 is a program that allows users to create branching scripts. Quandary 2 scripts are displayed in a similar manner to a web page. At the bottom of each page, the user makes a selection, and based on this selection, the user is re-directed to the appropriate section of the script. This is ideal for creating step-by-step walkthroughs for troubleshooting a specific programs and systems that could be experiencing one of a number of symptoms.

Microsoft Office 2007 Professional Microsoft Office 2007 was used for the bulk of content generation for the IT Effectiveness Training project. Microsoft Word and Expression Web were used for text-based lectures while Visio was used to create process flowcharts. |

Wimba Course Tools Wimba Course Tools are additional components that expand the functionality of WebCT Vista. Some of the tools include Wimba Voice and Wimba Create. Wimba Voice was used to allow communication between the Helpdesk Coordinator and Helpdesk Representatives during the development stages of the IT Effectiveness Training project in order to stay in communication while he was not available on-site.
