File Synchronization (My Documents)
- Contents
Introduction
One of the features of Active Directory is file synchronization. The process allows files stored in specific locations on a computer's hard drive to be copied to the Active Directory server. This is an automatic process and requires you to take no steps aside from saving the files in the appropriate locations.
Benefits
The benefits of this synchronization include:
- These files will be backed up onto the server, allowing Information Technology an additional opportunity to recover data if it becomes lost or corrupted.
- These files will be available to you on any Active Directory computer you log into throughout the campus.
Synchronization and the My Documents Folder
The My Documents folder that appears on your desktop as well as all of its contents will be synchronized to the server.
Important Notes
-
Remember, that while using Active Directory, it is critical that you log off the computer before you step away from it. Otherwise, the next person who uses the computer will have access to all of your synchronized files.
- If for any reason you lose your connection to the internet, file synchronization will cease and you will see a pop-up notification of this fact. Synchronization will continue once the internet connection has been restored.
