This year, the 9 jazz majors gained a lot of useful knowledge to help them become more proficient at this so-called art form known as jazz. They studied topics such as II-V-I chord progressions, tri-tone substitutions, and improvisation. For 4 hours a day they played many songs trying to learn all they could about it.The jazz majors also had many guest stop by and provide some guidance. They were Leon Anderson, Scotty Barnhart, Rodney Jordan, Scott Mcquade, Paul Campiglia, Donovan Stokes and Bob Greenhaw.

Also, the jazz majors combined with the brass and saxophone majors to form the GHP Jazz Ensemble. It gave them the opportunity to perform in a large group as opposed to the small combo they were used to playing in. The jazz ensemble this year was conducted by former GHP and VSU student, Mr. Stantawn Kendrick.
