Regular Admission
To be accepted as a regular graduate student in the Department of English for the M.A. in English Studies for Language Arts Teachers, an applicant must have the following:

A bachelor’s degree from a regionally-accredited institution in any one of the following three areas or its equivalent:
- English
- Secondary Education – English
- Middle Grades Education – English
- A minimum GPA of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. This GPA may be cumulative or in the undergraduate major
- A minimum score of 153 on the Verbal section of the GRE OR a minimum score of 3.5 on the Analytical section of the GRE
- Cover Letter - A two-page letter detailing how the degree will influence the applicant’s professional life, including relevant academic training and interests and professional career goals

Two letters of recommendation from professionals familiar with the applicant’s professional and/or academic background
Probationary Admission
Students who do not meet the minimum GRE score and/or the minimum GPA may, at the discretion of the Graduate Studies Committee, be admitted on a probationary basis. The completion of 12 hours of coursework while maintaining a 3.0 GPA will remove the student from probationary status. Falling below a 3.0 at any point during the probationary period (up through the completion of 12 hours of course work) will result in immediate dismissal from the program.
