VALDOSTA STATE COLLEGE

Minutes, November 2, 1992

The Council on Staff Affairs met in Pound Hall, Room #201, Monday, = November=20 2, 1992.

Present: Norma Barr, Vanessa Brunston, Angel Diaz, Juanita Faircloth, = Inman=20 Grimsley, Ann Holland, Robert Lee, Russ Mast, John Miller, Donna Nolan, = Steve=20 Roberts, H. Watson, and Karrie Yeatman.=20

Absent: Gordon House, Bob Krawcyzk and Allie Thomas.=20

  1. President Russ Mast called the meeting to order at 2:30 p.m.=20

  2. Dr. Jerry Hardee was to speak to the council on Affirmative Action = and=20 sexual harassment. He was unable to attend due to an unavoidable = conflict.=20

  3. The minutes of the October 5, 1992 meeting were approved as = distributed.=20

  4. Committee Reports were:=20

    a) Executive Committee - Russ reported on letter to President = Bailey=20 (see attachment) on COSA's concerns regarding movement of the Credit = Union.=20 Dr. Bailey thanked Russ and COSA for taking the time to respond to = this=20 important issue.=20

    b) Communications Committee - Steve Roberts reported that COSA = minutes=20 would be distributed to staff through the post office.=20

    c) Welfare Committee - Angel Diaz - no report.=20

    d) Policy Committee - Karrie Yeatman - no report.

  5. Reports from the Chairperson:=20

    a) Credit Union - see Item 4a.=20

    b) Items for COSA Agenda - Item VI of the COSA By-Laws reads: = "Items to=20 be reported or discussed should be included in a letter to the = chairperson=20 seven (7) days before the regularly scheduled meeting time." The = Board=20 agreed to adhere to this rule.

  6. Old Business:=20

    a) Wage Survey - Inman Grimsley reported VSC is bringing in an = outside=20 firm to do a wage survey this year, a firm that has worked with = other=20 schools and colleges. The following motion was made by Robert Lee. = COSA=20 should wait before doing a wage survey, but Chair- person Russ Mast = would=20 talk with the Vice President for Business and Finance, Gary McCombs, = and put=20 in writing our interests. Also COSA would look at the standards to = be=20 surveyed to see if they are relevant for all staff. Steve Roberts = seconded=20 the motion and the motion passed.=20

    b) Pat Gillilands replacement would be announced at the next = meeting.=20

  7. New Business:=20

    Executive Committee membership - Russ Mast asked the Council to = think about=20 and be ready to vote on adding the three additional Council officers = to the=20 executive committee at our next meeting.=20

  8. Other:=20

    Inman Grimsley asked the council to support/endorse the schedule of = holidays for 1993. He will bring a copy to the next meeting. Steve = Roberts=20 made a motion COSA review the holiday schedule, Karrie Yeatman = seconded the=20 motion and the motion passed. Inman Grimsley also asked everyone to = remind=20 their colleagues to attend the open enrollment meetings which have = been=20 scheduled.=20

  9. The meeting adjourned at 3:15 p.m.
