- Chair, Sue Teel, called the meeting to order at 8:18 AM in the =
President's=20
Dining Room, Palms Dining Center.=20
- Minutes of the April meeting were approved.=20
- Treasurer's Report-Bill Bennett reported that $2210.76 was the =
balance as=20
of April 30, 1996.=20
- Committee Reports=20
- Communications/Elections-Election results for four positions =
were=20
announced. The person with the most votes in each area accepted. A =
letter=20
will be sent to Dr. Bailey. The new representatives are:
- Holly Decker - Business and Finance area=20
- Hazel Hewett - EEO4=20
- Patrick Smith - EEO6=20
- Joe Hickey - EEO7
A copy of the ballot for the area =
of=20
representation will be provided to the elected individuals to help =
identify=20
their constituency. 149 ballots were returned of the 803 ballots =
mailed to=20
employees. The 18.56% return was as follows: EEO7 - 6.25%; EEO6 - =
14.81%;=20
Business and Finance area - 16.84%; and EEO4 - 36.07%. The use of a =
ballot=20
of nominees vs. an open ballot for future elections was discussed.=20
- Policy-No Report.=20
- Welfare-No Report.=20
- Parking Appeals-Meeting set for 5/14/96. The committee has heard =
from=20
staff that they do not feel they were adequately informed about the =
change=20
to a strict enforcement of the parking regulations. The primary =
concern was=20
that practices which have been allowed were suddenly being ticketed. =
- Employee Recognition-The nomination process for employee of the =
quarter=20
starts Monday, May 20th.=20
- ByLaws-No Report=20
- Staff Development-Results of the COSA survey of staff =
development needs=20
were presented. It was noted that Sarah Ellerbee in Political =
Science=20
offered to do a presentation about living wills and durable power of =
attorney.=20
- Salaries Study-No Report.
- Report from the Chair - No Report=20
- Old Business-Staff had questions about flex schedule arrangements. =
A staff=20
member should take this issue to their supervisor. If the supervisor =
approves=20
then the Personnel Office should be contacted for a final =
authorization.=20
- New Business New officers are to be elected at the next meeting.=20
Election procedures concerning representation for over 299 =
employees and=20
ties in voting across categories will be forwarded to the Bylaws =
committee.=20
The Staff Development survey designed by Continuing Education was=20
discussed. It appears to be almost identical to the COSA survey. Some =
COAS=20
members thought the new survey was going to identify both what is =
currently=20
being provided on campus and the available resources, and therefor =
also=20
identify needed resources, rather than try to identify development =
needs.=20
A COSA information sheet was presented by Sue Teel. It was =
suggested this=20
sheet be provided by the Personnel Office to each new staff employee.=20
