Ensure that your children are safe and comfortable in the water
for all your upcoming summer activities!
Lessons are available for ages 3 and up. (For reasons of public health and safety per VSU Student Recreation Center policy, children must be fully toilet trained.) There is no upper age limit. Classes consist of five 50-minute sessions during one week, and the cost is $65. Class size is limited to 5 students. Classes will be broadly grouped into "Non-Swimmers" and "Swimmers". Parents are encouraged to form groups to fill classes.
Classes will be taught by Red Cross Certified Water Safety Instructors. The instructor will work with each individual at his or her skill level. Our swimming instructors follow the Red Cross Learn to Swim program. Click here for descriptions of the six Learn to Swim Levels.
Back by popular demand! We again have several evening sessions for adults only. Adults at at beginning and elementary levels of swimming ability may enroll. Please note: for these sessions to run there must be a minimum of 4 with a max of 5. Look for dates and times on our schedule.
All swimming lessons will be conducted in the indoor pool at the VSU Student Recreation Center on Sustella Avenue. The advantages of this location include:
- Pool is heated! The water is maintained at 82 degrees.
- Plenty of parking in the lot and parking deck behind the building!
- Family changing rooms are available.
Please Note: Due to the limited spaces available for each session, reservations for time slots will not be accepted via email, fax, or regular mail. Walk-in and telephone reservations only, please! Payments and registration forms can be mailed once time slots are confirmed in person or by phone and must be received within 5 days or spots will be relinquished.
Parents are encouraged to form groups with their children or friends to fill classes and ease transportation constraints. For more information click on the links above or call (229) 245-6484 or email Sue Bailey.
