 |
The Speech Communication Program at Valdosta State University allows students to concentrate in one of three emphasis areas: Public Relations, Intercultural and Organizational Communication, and General Speech. The BFA is a professional degree, preparing students for immediate placement as a communication practioner. Students are highly encouraged to participate in the many extra curricular activities available such as joining the debate team and participating in one of more departmental organizations. In addition to the BFA, the department now offers a Master of Arts in Communication.

A balance of theory and practice comprises the program of study in Speech Communication, thus students learn both the how and why of communication in various contexts. For example, students engage in the practice of public speaking, but they also learn the theories informing that practice. Majoring in Speech Communication prepares students for careers as professionals in industry, public relations, event planning, human resources, corporate communication, diversity/corporate training, account management, and sales. What makes the major increasingly popular is the career flexibility it allows graduates.
