Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences
Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences with over 6,000 students, Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences is the largest university of its kind in Baden-Württemberg. Located within the city's green belt, the campus is only a few minutes' walk from the city center. The University is a leader in the development of innovative bachelor's and master's degree programs, as well as in dual-degree programs with international partners. The University's strong ties to industry enable students to undertake integrated traineeships in commerce and industry.
Karlsruhe University of Applied Sciences goes back to the "Großherzogliche Badische Baugewerkeschule" (The Grand Duchy of Baden College of Building) founded in 1878. In 1919 it was renamed "Badische Höhere Technische Lehranstalt (Staatstechnikum)" (Baden Higher Technical School – State College of Technology). The "Staatstechnikum" then became a formative concept beyond Baden.
The city of Karlsruhe is an important commercial and administrative center in south-west Germany with some 285,000 inhabitants. It is situated in the Rhine valley, on the border of the Black Forest, and has a comparatively mild climate with warm summers. Its proximity to France and Switzerland offer many opportunities for excursions. Karlsruhe is also well-known as Germany's "Technology Region", as a lot of state-of-the art research is carried out here, and many international companies and well-known research institutions are located in, around, or close to Karlsruhe.
The International Office (Akademisches Auslandsamt, AAA) at HsKA is responsible for the university’s international relations. We are the central point of contact for our overseas partners and the main service center for our international students and guest lecturers on campus. We also give advice and support to our local students on their study abroad options and to our academic staff on their international activities. By actively promoting new co-operative agreements with overseas institutions and additional international programs, the AAA plays a key role in setting the university’s international agenda.
Room and Board
Students can apply for university accommodation directly at the Student Services (Studentenwerk). However, there is usually a 1-semester waiting list. Therefore, the International Office has a quota of rooms in student hostels. Because the number of these rooms is limited, students can have a room for one semester only. They will re-ceive information on how to apply for such a room with their invitation letter. University accommodation can be rented for the complete semester only. For more information about university and private accommodation go to www.hs-karlsruhe.de/en/prospective-students/student-life/accommodation.html.
