Goal / Scope

The Ecology Day Camp is a one week whole-day field experience day camp for middle grades (rising 6th, 7th and 8th grades) students. The participants will spend their mornings at Lake Louise collecting samples and observing the ecology (biology, chemistry and geology) of the research site. The afternoons wil be spent in the laboratories at VSU analyzing samples and evaluating data. Students will make a presentation on the final day of the camp.

Program Highlights

  • Interactions with VSU faculty and graduate students

 

Program Structure and Schedule

Camp participants will be supervised at all times by VSU faculty, graduate or undergraduate councilors. All experiments (at Lake Louise or in the VSU laboratories) will be supervised by qualified personnel. Laboratory safety will be emphasized at all times.

Meals

Lunch will be served and provided from 12:00 - 12:30 p.m. each day as well as an afternoon snack.

Camp Hours

Participants will arrive by 8:00 a. m. and will leave at 4:30 p.m.. Drop-off and pick-up information will be given upon acceptance.

Camp Meeting

On Friday, each team will make a short present of what they learned at camp on Friday. Families are invited to attend the presentation. The camp closes with a pizza party for all participants.
